Subject: 19453/ambul.serv./city/county Date: Tue, 3 Jul 1990 17:16:00 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 19453 A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE MAYOR AND ADMINISTRATOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY TO MAKE ALL PROVISIONS NECESSARY TO DISCONTINUE AMBULANCE SERVICES CURRENTLY PROVIDED BY THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1992, AUTHORIZING HAMILTON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, TO PROVIDE AMBULANCE SERVICE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND ADMINISTRATOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY TO OFFER CERTAIN INDUCEMENTS TO THE COUNTY OF HAMILTON TO PROVIDE AMBULANCE SERVICES TO ITS TAXPAYERS ON AN EQUAL BASIS WITH AMBULANCE SERVICES CURRENTLY PROVIDED BY THE COUNTY OF HAMILTON IN THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF HAMILTON COUNTY. _______________ WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee will withdraw and discontinue funding for ambulance services currently provided by the City of Chattanooga effective July 1, 1992; and WHEREAS, the County of Hamilton currently provides ambulance service to citizens of Hamilton County in the unincorporated areas of Hamilton County; and WHEREAS, the County of Hamilton should provide and maintain ambulance service to citizens of Hamilton County residing within the City of Chattanooga on the same basis that ambulance service is currently provided and maintained to citizens of Hamilton County residing in the unincorporated areas of Hamilton County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, as follows: 1. That the Mayor and Administrator of the Department of Safety are hereby directed to make all provisions necessary to discontinue ambulance service currently provided by the City of Chattanooga effective July 1, 1992; 2. That, pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated A77-61-104, the County of Hamilton, Tennessee, be and is hereby authorized to provide and maintain, license, franchise or contract for ambulance service within the boundaries of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee; 3. That as an inducement to Hamilton County to provide equal services to its taxpayers within the City of Chattanooga, the Mayor and Administrator of the Department of Safety are authorized to offer to the County of Hamilton the City's ambulances and accompanying equipment in order to diminish start-up costs for ambulance services within the City of Chattanooga, to offer to the County of Hamilton the current quarters devoted to City ambulance personnel at the various fire halls of the City free of charge for a period of five years and to offer to the County of Hamilton a waiver of any requirement that the City's EMS personnel pay the City for any training heretofore received at the City's expense if such personnel transfer to the Hamilton County Ambulance Service, all subject to the provision and maintenance of ambulance services to the citizens of the City of Chattanooga on an equal basis with those ambulance services provided to citizens of unincorporated areas of Hamilton County.
